Lab-Grown Diamonds

The same diamond. A smarter way to buy it.

Most of the pieces I design are set with lab-grown diamonds and gemstones. Here is what that means — and why it works in your favor.

A real diamond, not an imitation

Lab-grown diamonds are diamonds — chemically, physically and optically identical to those mined from the earth. They are grown from carbon in a controlled process that reproduces the conditions under which natural crystals form. They are not simulants like cubic zirconia or moissanite, which merely imitate a diamond's look.

Graded by the same standards

The same gemological criteria apply to a lab-grown stone as to a natural one: cut, color, clarity and carat weight. Independent laboratories grade both without distinction, so you always know exactly what you are buying.

Where the value lies

Because laboratory growth is efficient rather than scarce, a lab-grown diamond typically costs 40–70% less than the natural equivalent. That difference goes back into the commission: a larger stone, a finer cut, more intricate metalwork — or simply a piece of the same beauty at a fraction of the price.

Color, honestly

The same logic applies to colored stones. A fine lab-grown emerald offers the vivid color and clarity collectors prize, without the premium that scarcity commands for a natural gem. I will always tell you candidly where a natural stone is worth the premium — and where it is not.

IGI — International Gemological InstituteCertification

Every stone over 1 carat arrives with its certificate.

All diamonds over one carat that I set are certified by IGI — the International Gemological Institute — and the piece is delivered with the original certificate in hand. Each report records the stone's exact grading and carries the report number laser-inscribed on the girdle of the diamond itself, so the paper in your hand and the stone in your ring are forever matched.

During procurement you see the certificates alongside the stones, side by side, and we talk through what each grade means before anything is chosen.
